According to a News 14 Carolina report, the North Carolina Joint Legislative Elections Oversight Committee, which has been discussing replacing the state’s non-partisan judicial election system with partisan elections, has not reached a consensus.  Some legislators are concerned that the current system fails to inform the general public about judges running for seats.  However, Raleigh Democratic Senator Josh Stein, who supports keeping the elections non-partisan, noted that while a party label may give voters more information about judges, “[t]rying to infuse partisan information into electing judges isn’t healthy.”
