Last Monday, the California Supreme Court gave UC Berkeley Law school professor Goodwin Liu its highest rating of “exceptionally well-qualified.” Shortly thereafter—and barely a month after he was nominated by Governor Jerry Brown to the high court—Liu was unanimously confirmed by the state Commission on Judicial Appointments. Governor Brown nominated Liu in July, after Liu withdrew his nomination to the federal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals because Senate Republicans threatened a filibuster. “It has been a long journey for my family, and it has definitely ended with the most pleasant, enjoyable confirmation,” Liu said, according to a Los Angeles Times report.
