Virginia Senate Bill 760, which would place on recipients of Virginia state funding for civil legal services to the poor essentially the same restrictions that Congress placed in 1996 on federal LSC grantees, has been removed from consideration by its sponsor, State Senator J. Randy Forbes, and will be carried over until next year for further study. A Va. House Subcommittee was supposed to consider the bill earlier this week, but Forbes says they ran out of time. Forbes says he hope that the Virginia Farm Bureau, Virginia Legal Services Corporation, Virginia Justice Center, and other groups can resolve their differences over the legislation before the beginning of next year’s legislative session.
