Article reports that Maryland Judge Richard Palumbo announced his retirement, all but ensuring that he will avoid a judicial misconduct hearing scheduled for the end of the month. Judge Palumbo gained national notoriety last September for dismissing a protective order against Yvette Cade_s estranged husband, who three weeks later doused Ms. Cade with gasoline and lit her on fire. Complaints also allege that Judge Palumbo made disparaging comments about other women seeking protective orders, including three women who he likened to buses that come by every 10 minutes. Further allegations assert that Judge Palumbo used his position as a judge to intimidate state troopers and avoid traffic violation citations. The judicial misconduct hearing could have led to Judge Palumbo_s removal from the bench. It is unclear whether his pension would have been at stake.
