Editorial argues that President Bush, who has complained that the Senate has not approved his federal nominees, is “ignoring an obvious solution” i.e., to nominate moderate judicial candidates. Editorial argues that Bush is “sending over right-wing nominees and stomping his feet when he doesn’t get his way.” In 2007, controversy arose when after nominating U.S. District Court judge Noel Hillman to replace Samuel Alito on the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals, Bush withdrew Hillman’s nomination without explanation and nominated another candidate without consulting with New Jersey senators.
