ABA Urges Supreme Court to Accept Case on Lack of Judicial Pay Raises

The American Bar Association filed an amicus brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to accept review of Beer v. United States, brought by a group of current and former judges who charge that Congress’ failure to approve cost-of-living adjustments violates the constitutional guarantee of undiminished compensation for federal judges.  According to a press release, the ABA purports that federal judicial pay is so low that it compromises judicial independence assured by life tenure
