If Michigan's secretary of state is truly concerned about voters and protecting democracy, she needs to stop playing games, and start ensuring free, fair and accessible elections.

The leaked video of a Romney fundraising dinner in Boca Raton says a lot about the state of our democracy. According to Romney, 47 percent of the country “will vote for the President no matter what” because they are “dependent upon government” and “pay no income taxes.” As a result, Romney dismisses nearly half the electorate, saying, “[M]y job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

Ohio is at the center of the voting wars, but Secretary of State Jon Husted is a leader on ballot design.

While legal skirmishes over voting rights continue to play out publicly, another battle is brewing behind the scenes — one that will be fought by private citizens rather than political parties or politicians.
