The bill includes policies that would help even the playing field in the job market for returning citizens.

Terry-Ann Craigie, an economics fellow at the Brennan Center and an associate professor of economics at Connecticut College, joined other scholars and policy institute experts on a letter to House Committee on Oversight and Reform leadership in support of the Fair Chance Act. The bill would in-part require hiring managers to wait until the job application process is further along before asking applicants about any potential past criminal convictions. They write that the policy, known as ‘Ban the Box,’ is one way to help even the playing field in the job market for returning citizens.
